A Battleship, a fort, dolphins, and back on the road again

We went to see the Battleship U.S.S Alabama in Mobile, Wow! It took us all day to go through her. Check it out: http://www.ussalabama.com/about_park.php

Cindy threatened to put me in here if I didn't speed things along :)

We also spent a day at Fort Morgan. The famous words  "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" were spoken here by Union Adm. David Farragut. Check it out: http://www.nps.gov/nr/twhp/wwwlps/lessons/73morgan/73morgan.htm

See if you can spot the ghost, he has a peg-leg

We also went on a dolphin cruise I didn't get any good pic's, I was to busy watching them! but here's one

Tomorrow we will be back on the road again. I can't believe we've been here over a month already! We loved this place, great fun, great food, great friends (Thanks Dave and Marc!!!) We are going into Florida and heading down towards Tampa, we'll keep ya posted.

Lulu's, New Orleans ("N'Awlins") and some new pic's

Went to dinner with Dave and Marc @ Lulu's here in Gulf Shores. It's a huge complex owned and built by Jimmy Buffett's sister, Lucy. check it out http://www.lulubuffett.com/index-live.php

Entrance to the restaurant.

Cindy and Marc in front of the "Crazy Sista" stage at Lulu's (Buffett performs here free when he's in town)

We decided to take an overnight trip to New Orleans, we stayed at Harrah's Casino two blocks from Bourbon Street. We stayed for free with Cindy's coupon she got in the mail but I had to pay $35 to park the "Pavement Princess" (new name for our truck) overnight. I may never get over it ;)

Bourbon Street before the crowds come out at night.

We thought the architecture was just beautiful. Every where we went we found these great little court yards you could poke around in.
As the police started to close off the streets to traffic the "INTERESTING" people started to appear and this was one of my favorites.

Wildlife, food and fun

Polk salad Annie, Gators got your granny!!!
Hard to see but that's an eagle. We saw him on the road into camp.

I think we are finally getting the hang of this slowed down life style here and we are like'n it!
The sea food is wonderful, we went to a place called Billy's and bought shrimp and snapper right off the boat...you can't get any fresher than that! We also got something called Royal Reds, it's a shrimp that has an almost a lobster like taste, throw them in boiling water for 1 min. and serve with butter. Hmmm!  As I'm writing this I'm munching on Cajun boiled crawfish and jalapeno focaccia bread...my idea that I might shed a few pounds over the winter have flown out he window :) Oh, and don't get me started on the Dill Pickle Flavored Potato Chip's...I cant put them down!
Last night we went to Lamberts Cafe...Home the "throwed rolls" Yup, you guessed it, somebody comes out of the kitchen yells "Hot Rolls", hands go up and rolls begin whizzing by your head, fun place to eat, check them out here: http://www.throwedrolls.com/

For anyone that was worried we'd have nothing to watch here's a pick of our portable satellite dish, it only has one lnb so no high-def...but we are roughing it ya know!!!

Where are all the gators?

We've seen signs posted all along the boat canal "Do not feed or aggravate the alligators" I've looked every day for one but this is as close as I've come to seeing one, lol. He came for a visit a couple days ago and we named him Wally.
We went to the National Museum of Naval Aviation right on the base in Pensacola Fl. Dave and Marc volunteer here twice a month.
Home of the Blue Angles
There is a very interesting story behind this plane, with a Michigan connection.

At McGuire’s Irish Pub, this place is huge, great food and has over a MILLION dollars stapled to the  ceiling! Cindy and I had to contribute! We wrote on our bill "Bruce and Cindy first year of retirement 2012" The IRS audits the pub each year...how would you like that job, 1,2,3,4,5,6....Oh to hell with it give me a beer!
Pic of me coming out the wrong door...dont' ask :)
