Bullhead City, Arizona
Since the burros didn't come to the campground, we decided to go to them!  Today, we drove up to Oatman, Arizona.  Really interesting old mining town that the wild burros visit on a daily basis.  A lot of the stores there sell burro food for the tourists to feed them.  We've been here before but it is a pretty drive and fun to visit.!

We also decided to eat there and the restaurant we chose was covered on the inside with dollar bills!

Friday we drove a few miles from Bullhead City, Arizona into Nevada to Grapevine Canyon in the Spirit Mountains. Short hike from the parking lot to the base of the canyon and the petroglyphs. It is said the petroglyphs go 40 to 50 feet below the current sand level in the wash!  This area is so rich in Native American history and we love to explore it!  It was a beautiful day for climbing up the rocks!!

Most of the petroglyphs were at the bottom of the canyon.

But we still had to climb up the rocks to see a few more and find the spring.

So the climb begins....

Found a few more and the spring.

February 6, 2017

We left Tucson on the 5th and got to Bullhead City, Arizona on Monday the 6th.  Last time we were here, 2 years ago, we were greeted by burro's in the campground. Sadly, not this year. Instead, this pretty guy was spotted on a hill in the campground about a 100 yards from our camper! Beautiful!! We also hear 2 or 3 different dens/packs serenading us almost every night!

We will never grow up!!! We rented ATV's and with the help of our guide Leo, took a 36 mile r/t ride into the desert to a beautiful box/slot canyon with a final stop at a Butterfield Stagecoach stop that very few people get to see. The slot canyon was very difficult to ride through but by far our favorite, it was beautiful!!! It has walls that are about 1500 feet high on both sides and only about 15-20 feet apart in some places and a mountain stream running through the middle!

We made a trip out to the Sonora Desert Museum northwest of Tucson to see the raptor FREE FLIGHT demonstrations. We were lucky and got to see peregrine falcons, harrison hawks and monkey faced barn owls… They all seemed to take great pleasure in flying as close to our heads as possible, we could actually feel their feathers touch us as they passed!!! They also have a hummingbird aviary where we got to see a hummingbird on her nest.

Left Las Cruces, New Mexico and arrived in Tucson, Arizona yesterday.  Today we drove up to Saguaro National Park.  Been here before, but it is one of Bruce's favorites.  Beautiful day for a drive thru the park and the views from up there are wonderful!

To give you some perspective on the size of the Saguaro Cactus...These things are huge!

Looks like a little bit of snow still on top of the mountain in the distance.

Seems like they go on forever.

Time to leave Matagorda Texas and get back on the road west!  After a couple of one night stops, we ended up at Hacienda RV Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico, just a mile or two down the road from Old Mesilla, NM.  Beautiful old town dating back to the 1880's.  We've been here before, love the history and wandering around the square and doing some shopping!  This time we found an awesome little restaurant, Chala's Wood Fire Grill.  Food was so good, we had to go back the next night and try something else!   Here's a link to more information on the town.  http://www.mesillanm.gov/mesilla-history.html
